What is Family Day Care?

Since 1970, Seamen’s Society for Children and Families has provided family day care on Staten Island. Unlike a day care center, family day care is provided through a network of licensed private homes throughout the community of Staten Island.

Children from ages 6 weeks to 4 years of age are eligible for family day care. Family Day Care homes are very child-friendly, particularly to younger children. Our goal is to ensure that children are cared for in a sage and nurturing environment, while their parent(s) are working or attending a job training program.

Child Care Services are provided to low income families on Staten Island  through our Family Day Care Network. The cost of day care is based on a sliding scale depending on a parent’s income. We currently have a total of 23 providers.

Family Day Care: Training, support and placement services are provided to a network of licensed family day care providers on Staten Island. Homes are visited regularly by staff to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. Over 175 children are provided family day care services every day.
