In 2021, the Robert and Barbara Fitzsimmons Children and Family Fund at Seamen’s Society was established as a testament to the enduring support of the late Robert and Barbara Fitzsimmons. This fund carries forward the Fitzsimmons family legacy of compassion and commitment to children and families.

Making a Difference

• Since its establishment, the Fund has made a significant impact by providing 67 children with a variety of unique experiences, including enrichment classes and summer camps and, more broadly, funded teen outings and family picnics.
• Supported by the community, this special fund provides our children with hope throughout the year and offers experiences that are vital to their healthy and happy development.

Continuing the Legacy

The Robert and Barbara Fitzsimmons Children and Family Fund at Seamen’s Society was founded by Laura L. Volsario and Robert J. Fitzsimmons, Jr., the children of Robert and Barbara Fitzsimmons. This fund stands as a living tribute to their parents’ devotion to Seamen’s Society and their lifelong dedication to the well-being of children and families.

Remembering Robert and Barbara Fitzsimmons

Robert Fitzsimmons:

• Organized holiday parties for children.
• Led the annual calendar drive.
• Instrumental in securing the agency’s current office building on Bay Street.

Barbara Fitzsimmons:

• Served on the Seamen’s Society Board of Managers in the 1980s.
• Contributed to the Advisory Board in the 1990s.
