Since our beginnings in 1846, Seamen’s Society has been steadfast in our mission, which is focused on ensuring the safety and well-being of vulnerable children and families, in New York City, whom are entrusted to our care. Our mission is particularly critical in times of uncertainty, and I am proud of our dedicated team of caring professionals, whom continue to live up to our legacy of service, especially now.
Our Mission Continues
The world’s coronavirus (COVID-19) response is evolving rapidly. As I’ve expressed to our team, I understand the concerns – and fears – that the current public health crisis can trigger. Each day, we think about the current, and potential, impact on loved ones, friends, colleagues, and ourselves. We grieve for the families that have been most severely impacted by the crisis, so far. We honor the health care workers and first responders who serve on the front lines of battling this global pandemic.
In these unprecedented times, and always, the health and safety of our entire team, and the security and well-being of our children and families, remain our top priority. That’s why, at Seamen’s Society, we know that now is the time to ensure, with heightened safety at the forefront, that the children and families we serve stay on course toward moving to a better tomorrow.
Taking Care of Our Clients and Our Team
We continue to serve over 1,200 children, and more than 500 families, across our foster care, preventive, family daycare, domestic violence intervention, behavioral health and medical care coordination programs. With the exception of our after-school tutoring program, and the elimination of Saturday hours, all of our programs continue to provide the critical services which support the children and families in our care.
We have also adjusted our service delivery models, as we have transitioned to flexible and remote working arrangements, where possible, in order to sustain our essential services in a manner that prioritizes the health and safety of our clients and staff. We have significantly stepped up cleaning in our facilities, and encourage social distancing, within the workplace, and well beyond our doors, as we all work together to mitigate the spread of the virus.
Your Support Really Matters!
Under normal circumstances, we are highly appreciative of the support we receive from individual donors, corporate sponsors, and people familiar with, or new to, the mission of our organization. Given the nature of the impact of COVID-19, on the families and communities we serve, I believe that now is the time to invite new, and existing, friends of Seamen’s Society to support our essential and valued mission. We need you now.
Your gift will allow us to obtain, for example, necessary and emergency items for our foster care and preventive families (including food and supplies), and procure the personal protective equipment and cleaning supplies needed to help keep our staff, clients and visitors safe.
With questions about other ways to help, please contact Andrew Miller, our Senior Director of Development, at 718-447-7740 x4269 or firstname.lastname@example.org
At Seamen’s Society, we are inspired, each day, by the opportunity to help build vibrant and healthy futures for the children and families whom look to us for support. As the global community strives to move through this crisis, you have my promise that we are driven to be at our very best, in caring for our clients – and each other.
Thank you. Stay safe and healthy.
