GENERAL PREVENTION

Preventive Services help keep families together.

Preventive Programs available in Brooklyn and Staten Island provide case management and counseling services to families at risk of losing their children to foster care or involvement in Family Court. Through individual and group work, home visits, and crisis intervention, Case planners assist families to develop safe and nurturing environments for their children.

Preventive services are available to any family with a child who is under the age of 18 and who are:

  • Having difficulty managing and/or understanding their child’s behavior.
  • Having a difficult time dealing with their child’s adolescence.
  • Coping with the loss of a loved one through death, separation or divorce.
  • Families at risk of having a child placed in foster care.

FAMILY TREATMENT REHABILITATION (FT/R)

Family Treatment and Rehabilitation Services (FT/R) are available to families where chemical dependency and/or mental illness threatens the safety and well being of children, putting them at risk of foster care placement. These services are available to families impacted by chemical dependency and/ or mental illness who have recently been reunited from foster care, as well as those with an infant with a positive toxicology screen. Services are provided to all family members.

Preventive Services are provided to families on a voluntary basis. Our goal is to help families remain together by dealing with the challenges and pressures they face in their everyday life.

All services are free and confidential. Referrals can be made by any agency or organization or directly by the parent. For more information please call: 718-447-7740 or email us at info@seamenssociety.org.
