Curious about Becoming a Foster Parent?
Seamen’s Society for Children and Families is looking for very special people in Staten Island and Brooklyn to provide temporary homes, love and understanding to nurture children whose families are unable to provide this care for them at home. These adults must be flexible, patient, and able to work as a member of a team in the best interest of the child. We are looking for foster parents for children of all ages, races and religions. In particular, there is a great need for homes that can accommodate sibling groups, teens, moms with their infants and homes for children with emotional needs.
Foster homes provide temporary care to a child in need. These very diverse children have one thing in common; they are lovable and need the stability of good families so they can develop the roots and wings to grow.
Seamen’s Society’s Foster Care Program involves everyone, the child, birth family, foster family, and staff working together towards one common goal: permanency for the child.
Being a foster parent can be very rewarding: you become an integral part in the decision making of the child; you gain new skills in child development, legal and medical issues; you play an important role in serving your community but most important you make a difference in the life of a child.
- Must be at least 21 years old
- have an income from a job, public assistance or social security
- provide a safe, loving home environment
